26 October 2006. Glasgow's New Cluster Comissioned

Less then two weeks after ClusterVision's final delivery of hardware at Glasgow, the new computing cluster was certified at a production quality grid site.

Within 20 minutes grid jobs from the ATLAS VO arrived and began executing, and within 6 hours the cluster was running over 200 jobs. ScotGrid Tier 2 co-ordinator, Graeme Stewart, commented "This show that grid methods are an excellent way of improving overall cluster usage."

When fully deployed the new cluster will consist of 140 dual core, dual CPU Opteron worker nodes, providing more than 1 million SI2K and almost 100TB of storage.

This new Grid Computing infrastructure will support Particle Physics and Bioinformatics, as well as Grid Data Management, Information Retrieval, Medical Imaging and Device Modelling simulations.
